Service Opportunities

Stephen Ministers

Stephen Ministry is a care-giving service provided by church members for those who are in need of a listening ear. It is a ministry grounded in Jesus’ command to love one another. Through one-to-one caring relationships, those who are hurting receive the love and care they need to support them.

Is life more than you can handle alone right now?
Are your health, your attitude, or your relationships suffering?
Are you adjusting to a new job, change in marital status, a serious illness, the death of a loved one, a recent move?
Would you like to have someone in your life who really cares?
Everyone goes through difficult times. Having someone to care, to listen, to share God’s love with you can help you get through the confusion, stress, or loneliness you may be experiencing.
Stephen Ministry helps meet the needs of individuals who are. . .

hospitalized
terminally ill
bereaved
in a job crisis
new members of the church
disabled
homebound
lonely
in a spiritual crisis
looking for a caring, Christian friend.
Consider allowing a Stephen Minister to walk with you on your journey to wholeness.
Please contact the church office or the minister to request services.

Greensboro Urban Ministries

Many of our local ministry opportunities are through the Greensboro Urban Ministries.

Founded in 1967, Greensboro Urban Ministry (GUM) is supported by over 200 congregations representing Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish faith traditions. GUM works to express the love of God to people in need through practical action in the Greater Greensboro area. GUM provides shelter, financial aid, food, medical services and clothing to needy individuals. Annually we serve 40,000 men, women, and children. A major purpose of GUM is to provide our community opportunities to give and to serve.

Additional information may be found through their web site at: http://www.greensborourbanministry.org/

Peace Church/Greensboro Urban Ministry Food Drive

Each fall, GUM organizes a major annual food drive at local grocery stores and post offices. Peace Church volunteers collect food and cash donations. Since 2001, Greensboro has experienced a dramatic increase in the need for food for families. More than 400,000 pounds of food was provided to needy families in 2004. A total for 2005 has not yet been provided by the Greensboro Urban Ministry, but the fall food drive was reportedly a great success.

Contact the church at 336-299-8663 to participate.

Mobile Meals of Greensboro

Once a month, on the second Thursday, members of Peace Church gather in the parking lot at 9:30 a.m. to distribute food to enrolled senior adults throughout Greensboro.

Mobile Meals is a United Way Agency which provides hot noontime meals for those seniors who have no other means of obtaining a meal. Meals are planned to meet the nutritional needs of older adults. This service is available for the elderly who may be disabled or frail.

Every day of the work week you will find cars present in the parking lot as Peace Church is the area pick-up site for our neighborhood.

If you would like to volunteer with this exceptional program, please contact the church office at 299-8663.

Global Ministries in Guatemala

The United Church of Christ partners with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for involvement in world-wide missions. The Western North Carolina Association of the UCC Southern Conference was recently challenged to become involved with the ministries of Paul Pitcher who serves in communications and with youth work for Christian Action of Guatemala (ACG).

The WNCA has sent a mission group to Guatemala with a Peace Church representative, and we will continue to search for opportunities for short term mission involvement by volunteers.
